My Offensive Philosophy: The Spread Triple Read Option
Create a nightmare for your opponent. — Nick Saban
The Spread Triple Read Option offensive scheme is built on a handful of non-negotiables. Everything we install, every formation we line up in, and every read the quarterback makes comes back to these ideas.
Play Fast
TEMPO!!! TEMPO!!! TEMPO!!!
Play with Selflessness
How you play without the football determines how much you love your teammates.
Create Space for Playmakers
This involves using various strategies to open areas on the field for receivers and running backs to exploit defensive vulnerabilities using Read Option run plays.
Be a Modern Triple Option Team
We also utilize Gun Triple Option to create a numerical advantage, RPOs in the short passing game, and a vertical passing game to stretch the defense down the field.
Create Mismatches with Exotic Formations that Produce Explosive Plays
We want to be unpredictable. Using multiple formations, we get favorable matchups and run our same plays — the ones that generate explosive plays.
Neutralize Superior Athletes
The scheme forces defenders to follow specific assignments rather than simply run and chase the football.
My Defensive Philosophy: K.I.L.L.
K.I.L.L. — Keep It Likeable and Learnable. Defense should be simple enough that players can cut it loose and play fast, and clear enough that they want to learn more of it.
Defensive Objectives
- The BEST defensive unit in college football is measured by the number of points allowed. It is our #1 job to keep our opponent from scoring.
- Stop the opponent's offense immediately. We are not about bending and not breaking — we want 3-and-outs and takeaways.
- Score on defense.
- Create field position for our offense.
We don't control how we get on the field, but we do control how we get off the field.
My Special Teams Philosophy
Big Time Players, Make Big Time Plays, in Big Time Games. — Santana Moss
Special teams is a third of the game and it gets treated that way. Four things drive every unit we put on the field:
- WIN THE FIELD POSITION BATTLE EVERY POSSESSION.
- Eliminate FOOLISH PENALTIES.
- CREATE MOMENTUM with big plays.
- CREATE scoring opportunities — or SCORE for our football team.
