The Wide Receiver 2 Ball Curl Drill

The Wide Receiver 2 Ball Curl Drill

The Wide Receiver 2 Ball Curl Drill is an advanced, high-tempo training exercise where a receiver runs a curl route and must catch the football thrown from the quarterback or coach before running to the next cone to break down and curl around that cone before returning to the center of the four cones. This drill heavily challenges hand-eye coordination, concentration, and body control.

The Key Benefits Each Player Should Get Out of This Drill

Accelerated Hand-Eye Coordination: Forcing a receiver to rapidly adjust to catching a football and instantly transition into the next curl route improves focus, ball tracking, and reaction time under pressure.
Clean Catch Mechanics: It reinforces immediate ball security. Receivers must securely tuck the football away while remaining mentally and physically prepared to catch the next football after running the curl route around the next cone. The receiver has four passes to catch throughout the drill.
Explosive Turn & Finish: The sequence forces the athlete to drop their hips, snap around, secure the football, and immediately explode up-field, helping build game-speed momentum.
Builds Muscle Memory: Eliminates overthinking at the top of the route. Repetition through this drill helps players create natural and automatic movement patterns for running curl routes and catching the football.
