UP-TEMPO Emoji Poster Board

Thursday, April 23th, 2026

Coaches, this is a general idea of my tempo offense communication system. I use emojis intentionally because they keep players engaged and make recognition faster on the field. Our players also wear wristbands as quick-reference tools to reinforce assignments and execution.

We typically carry around 9 poster boards per game, each tied to a specific play, which helps us operate efficiently at a high tempo.

When implementing an up-tempo offense, it’s critical that everything is aligned—your hand signals, poster boards, and one-word play calls must all sync together within your offensive system. Consistency across all communication methods is what allows your offense to play fast and execute at a high level.

This is a great example of how to effectively use poster boards with code words, emojis, and even college/mascot associations to simplify communication and maximize tempo.

I could never figure out how the Oregon Ducks use their poster board offense with the 4 pictures they would use to call offensive plays. So I developed my own system that worked for the team.
